This course is for the student that is interested in Musical Theatre - both on stage and “behind the scenes”. Students will have the opportunity to rehearse, perform, direct, and choreograph/stage various scenes and shows from the Broadway genre. In addition to performing and producing, students will learn the historical and cultural significance of various Broadway musicals. All students are expected to both perform and direct/produce. The culminating activity will consist of the student’s participation/performance in the Musical Theatre Showcase of a Jukebox musical (including learning about the technical aspects of theatre - advertising/promotion, set, prop costume construction and stage management) and a final performance assessment.
Pre-requisite: None in the first year offered.
Grade 9 Band Class AMI 1O1
Students with little or no instrumental experience develop foundational instrumental technique, foundational music literacy, and aesthetic musical awareness through rehearsal, performance, and study of high-quality band literature. Instrumentalists work on the fundamentals of music notation, sound production, instrument care and maintenance, and personal and group rehearsal strategies. Public performances serve as a culmination of specific course objectives.
Play music from a variety of genres
Identify connections between Music and other content areas
Learn how to rehearse and play music in small ensembles, as a soloist, and in large group rehearsals
No experience necessary!

Students develop deeper foundational instrumental technique, music literacy, and aesthetic musical awareness through rehearsal, performance, and study of high-quality band literature. Instrumentalists work on the a deeper understanding of music notation, sound production, instrument care and maintenance, and personal and group rehearsal strategies. Public performances serve as a culmination of specific course objectives.
Play music from a variety of genres
Identify connections between Music and other content areas
Play music that further challenges each student to reach their potential
Grade 11 and 12 Band classes will be counted toward post-secondary applications (M courses)

The Vocal Music program is designed to enhance the musical, creative and expressive qualities of all students. Musical opportunities are provided for every student to learn the basic skills of singing, music literacy, developing song repertoire, broadening listening skills and experiencing the interrelated nature of music with other cultures and content areas. Public performances serve as a culmination of specific course objectives

Grade 11 Music and Computers AMM 3O
This course develops students’ musical literacy through performance and the preparation and presentation of music productions. Students will perform works at a level consistent with previous experience. Independently and collaboratively, students will use current technology and the creative and critical analysis processes to plan, produce, present, and market musical productions. Students will respond to, reflect on, and analyse music from various genres and periods, and they will develop skills transferable to other aspects of their life and their careers.
This is a performance and creation course which focuses on the use of current technology to plan, produce, present and market music productions.

Grade 12 Music and Computers AMM 4M
This course enables students to enhance their musical literacy through the creation, appreciation, analysis, and performance of music. Students will perform traditional, commercial, and art music, and will respond with insight to live and recorded performances. Students will enhance their understanding of the function of music in society and the impact of music on themselves and various communities and cultures. Students will analyse how to apply skills developed in music to their life and careers.
This is a performance and creation course which focuses on writing and recording music using real-world studio techniques. PREREQUISITE: AMM 3O1 and/or AMI 3M1
Grade 11 Guitar AMG 3O1
This course is for the beginner or those who want to develop their acoustic guitar skills further. The emphasis in this course is the efficient use of practice time and developing confident performance skills. Students learn the fundamentals of playing the guitar and will learn to read TAB and traditional notation and play music from a variety of styles including popular, jazz, rock, and country. Time management and goal setting are critical skills. Students will know all notes on the guitar by the end of this course and will have amassed a fine repertoire of pieces and the ability to perform sensitively and musically. Theoretical concepts are developed.
Prerequisite: None although any grade 9 or 10 Music course is highly recommended.
