I'm very proud to wear the blue and gold as a member of the music program at CKSS! My hope is to continue to build on the proud traditions that Chatham Kent Secondary School has maintained since the school was built in 1963. Music is important to this school and to this community. It's also my greatest passion as I continue to actively participate in local choirs, theatre companies and as a soloist. We have a wonderful program here, with caring staff, and talented students. I believe that music opens up immeasurable opportunities for us to learn about ourselves, the world, and our place in it. I also believe that music has the ability to transform lives.
We've been lucky enough to travel to competitions and festivals regionally (Chatham Kiwanis), nationally (Toronto) and internationally (Cleveland) and return with high rankings. We also regularly visit places like the Don Wright Faculty of Music, Stratford, St. Clair College Music Theatre program and Toronto to expose our students to a variety of opportunities.
The aspect I enjoy most about the program at CKSS is the one of creating not just a community, but also a family. Music students take care of one another, care about the work we do together, and are model citizens in our community. I'm incredibly proud of them and their contributions to our work here at the school and abroad. We have very high standards for the music we make together, but we also know how to have a lot of fun while we work.
To any students considering coming to CKSS, I encourage you to do so. This is an amazing school with a number of fantastic opportunities for you to explore, and I hope you'll consider getting involved in the music program when you're here. You don't need to have any prior experience as a musician. We'll teach you everything you need to know when you get here!
